Tin Klačić
CV
I was born on July 23, 1993 in Zagreb. I graduated chemistry at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb in 2017. Since then, I am a PhD student employed as an assistant at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science in Zagreb. My teaching activities at the Division of Physical Chemistry where I work are connected to seminars and laboratory exercises in the several physical chemistry courses for undergraduate and graduate students. The main areas of my scientific work are colloidal and interfacial chemistry, physical chemistry of macromolecules (especially polyelectrolytes), electrochemistry, and chemical kinetics. I have experience in using several instruments such as atomic force microscope, ellipsometer, contact angle goniometer, zetasizer, spectrophotometer, high-resolution ultrasonic spectrometer, different kinds of electrodes, etc. My scientific results have been published in 5 articles in journals from the Current Contents selection and were presented at 20 conferences. I also published 1 professional paper. During my studies, I visited Karlsruhe Institut of Technology (Germany, 2 months), Brno University of Technology (Czech Republic, 1 month), and University of Ljubljana (Slovenia, 1 month) through Erasmus and CEEPUS programs. I received the Rector’s Award of the University of Zagreb for individual scientific work in the academic year 2015/2016. and the award of the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Science in Zagreb for scientific work (2016). I actively participate in the popularization of science through various events (Open Day of Chemistry, Open Day of the Institute for Physics, Festival of Science, etc.). Also, I participate in the preparation of high school students for the European Union Science Olympiad (EUSO), International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO), International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), and International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad (IMChO). Since 2013, I am a member of the Croatian Chemical Society.
Motivation
My name is Tin Klačić, and I am a PhD student in the program of physical chemistry at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. I grew up in a lower-class family with a single mother who taught me the value of hard work and the importance of education. Her encouragement along with my determination helped me earn some of the best grades in my high school class. Even then I knew that physical chemistry would be my life call so I enrolled in chemistry studies. During my studies, I figure out that I have a passion for colloid and interface sciences. The beautiful word of nanoobjects amused me and I spend a lot of time in the laboratory making experiments. The results of my motivation are 6 articles that I have published and 20 conferences that I attended. But the main result is that my passion and motivation for nanosciences is still growing. Also, I love spending time reading scientific literature and learning new things. The fact that I have the opportunity to listen to the lectures of the authors of articles that I have read makes me excited. Moreover, I enjoy discussion themes I have read, and I think I have a naturally creative mind. I am confident that I will be able to apply this at SCCPLS 2020 and increase my knowledge and creativity. I appreciate that in this time of COVID-19 pandemic there would be held a school and a workshop for students in a safe online environment. As a student who has participated in several extracurricular activities, I think my diverse interests would make me a great fit for your school. I hope that my natural work ethic and drive to succeed would make me an expert in the field of nanotechnology, so I would like to learn more about it. I feel your summer school and workshops would help me to better understand physical laws and phenomena in colloidal sciences and that way make me closer to my dreams come true. Furthermore, through active participation in the discussion and problem sessions of the SCCPLS, I have a great possibility to improve my communication and English skills and make new connections and friendships with other participants. In conclusion, I hope to get the opportunity to participate in SCCPLS 2020. It would be a valuable experience for me.
