City of Rijeka
The city of Rijeka is the third-largest city in Croatia. Found at the north-east side of the Adriatic sea, it is Croatia’s most important commercial port and ship-building site, with a rich (at times even dramatic) history of the past two centuries. The city features an unusual combination of the old Austro-Hungarian style and industrial post-modern architecture, and a beautiful natural environment dominated by the „Grobnik alps“, Učka mountain and of course, the Kvarner bay. The city is well connected with the nearby larger centers of Zagreb, Trieste (Italy) and Ljubljana (Slovenia). In the first half of 2020, Rijeka is the European Capital of Culture with the motto “Rijeka 2020 Port of Diversity“.
