Instructions for participants
The whole program (lectures, discussions, problem sessions) will be transmitted through Zoom. Zoom can be used through your web browser without any downloads, however, in order to have full functionality, we suggest that you:
– Download and install Zoom https://zoom.us/download
– Create your Zoom account
– Test it on your computer before the start of the program
Before the lectures
– Access the lectures via the Zoom link sent to you per email (you will need the link, Meeting ID and Passcode contained in that email) – you will be able to log into two different Zoom sessions each day (one for the morning part, the second for the afternoon part).
– You are encouraged to take written notes during the lectures, discussions and problem sessions. It is unfortunately always possible that the SCCPLS 2020 web page containing the recorded video materials becomes temporarily unavailable due to technical problems. In that case you will have to rely on your notes (you are not allowed to make your own recordings of the program, see below).
During the lectures
– Please keep your microphone muted, even during the discussions after the lectures.
– The questions may be raised by typing them in the chat, however you should be aware of the number of participants, so please try to be short and straight to the point. Please pay attention to questions and discussions of other participants. It is likely that many questions will remain unanswered immediately after the lecture, in which case we suggest you repeat them during the afternoon discussions.
– The questions written in the chat will be selected and read aloud by the moderator, so please be patient until turn comes to your question. Then you are kindly asked to unmute your microphone if you would like to discuss your question. Please be aware that maximum two microphones should be unmuted at all times. Otherwise, all common rules of scientific discussions apply.
– Everybody is delighted to meet you, however there is no obligation to broadcast the picture from your webcam. If you will encounter problems with the connection (slow transmission, freezing of the presentation picture or similar), we suggest that you turn off your camera.
Discussions
– The discussions will be moderated, questions may be asked by “raising hand” in the chat (just type “Question please” or something similar). Please keep your microphone muted until prompted, then unmute and speak aloud your question.
Problem sessions
– Taking the problem session course is NOT mandatory (neither are the lectures), but students who will actively take part in the problem sessions have an opportunity to win one of the prizes.
– The problems, together with some introduction by the lecturers (if necessary), will be transmitted and recorded in the problem session (Zoom). The recorded video with all questions from that session will be posted on the SCCPLS 2020 web page (https://sccpls2020.uniri.hr/category/problem-sessions/) 15 min after the end of the session (delay necessary for upload). The students will have limited time to send their solutions per email as .pdf files or .jpg images of hand written papers. This time limit will be indicated (declared aloud) at the end of the problem session. Any solutions received after the deadline will not be considered.
– IMPORTANT: solutions should be sent to dcakara@uniri.hr in separate emails according to the lecturer who presented the problems. The email subject should include the lecturer’s last name (for example, subject: Szilagy problems)
– GRADING: In principle, a correct solution with procedure for each problem brings 1 point, regardless of the difficulty. The procedure should contain all the necessary steps for calculating the solution or giving an answer.
– Best five students from the problem sessions will be awarded. In the case that several students have the same number of points at the end of the workshop, other criteria will apply, such as the time a student needed to submit the solution or his/her degree and stage. In that case, the SCCPLS 2020 committee will perform classification. Each student should work independently, and similarity of solutions by students coming from the same group is discouraged.
Certificates of attendance
Although SCCPLS 2020 is an online school and the attendance is neither mandatory nor monitored, due to the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, Certificates of attendance will be available at your request before 15.09.2020. Due to a large number of participants and the fact that SCCPLS 2020 is completely free of charge, we will not be able to send these per ground mail to all participants, however please contact us if your school absolutely requires a paper form for recognizing SCCPLS 2020 as a part of your curriculum. Otherwise, our preference is to send a scan of the certificate to you per email, and we will be happy to do it by 20.09.2020. Thank you for your understanding.

Important notes
All materials transmitted in the lectures, discussions and problem sessions are property of the lecturers. These Zoom sessions will be recorded, and the videos will be available through the SCCPLS 2020 web page only to the logged in participants and lecturers (not guests), however not to the public. Therefore we appreciate that you are familiar with the following rules:
– You are not allowed to record or dispatch (transmit further) any of the Zoom meetings. If we notice such an attempt, the participant will promptly and permanently lose his registration rights.
– You are not allowed to share the login information.
